“AGE IS JUST a number.” As you age, you may hear this old saying more often, and it may not exactly feel comforting as you search for ways to stay motivated to maintain your fitness and health. But these golden boys of men’s health are living, breathing proof that it’s true.

Even when your body may not feel as it used to in the gym, exercising is still very important. In actuality, maintaining an active lifestyle is crucial for maintaining strength as you age. You’re not helped by nature; as you age, your muscle mass gradually decreases, making things you used to take for granted more challenging. A regular exercise regimen can help you prevent some of these aging negative effects. Your body feels better for longer if you continue to pursue fitness well into your 60s, 70s, 80s, and even 90s.

Well into their seventies, Lou Ferrigno, Stephen Lang, Skip Bayless, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Arnold Schwarzenegger are all doing just that. They gave Men’s Health a peek into their daily routines to see how, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they’re not going to slow down anytime soon. If you heed these pearls of wisdom they have imparted, you won’t either.

Five Exercise Suggestions From MH Stars Over 70: Maintain Consistent Fitness
The majority of these males work out at the gym or engage in some other type of physical activity multiple times per week. One of their top concerns is making time for exercise. According to Lang, exercising is “part of [his] job.”

Avoid Skipping the Warm-Up
It may take longer for the body to be ready for action as you get older. A proper warm-up helps protect our joints by increasing blood flow to the muscles, enabling them to function at their peak under extreme strain. Always start your workout with a low-weight, high-repetition set like Schwarzenegger’s or some cardio like Ferrigno.

Good Form Cannot Be Bartered
Maintaining proper form helps you train more efficiently and avoid injuries. Ferrigno asserts, “It’s not about the weight—it’s how you do it.” This includes doing each rep slowly rather than quickly in order to finish it. Additionally, how you progress is influenced by your form. According to Schwarzenegger, you might want to examine your form more closely if you’re never seeing any progress.

Try Difficult Things
Try yoga for the first time, like Lang, or end your workout with a daily challenge, like Bayless. The benefits (such as improved mobility and a strong core) exceed the drawbacks.

Don’t Overthink Your Daily Schedule
Simply get up and leave, Schwarzenegger advises. Fitness can and should be a part of every stage of life, whether your objective is to look better than the 30-year-olds (like Hogan) or just to maintain your quality of life (like Lang).
