Imagine having access to the knowledge of those who have successfully traversed life’s adventures and grown to understand what truly matters. In this post, we would like to present that point of view to you (you can use our app to access the complete course).
Even with the rapid advancements in technology that educate younger generations, the principles of decision-making remain unchanged. We still fight with the same fundamental needs: happiness, security, and love. In many ways, the issues that earlier generations faced are comparable to those we face now.
So what wisdom does our elders possess with reference to the choices they made? What vital lessons do they intend to impart to the following generation?
About 1,500 persons who were 70 years of age or older were questioned by gerontology professor Karl Pillemer of Cornell University for his book 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans. Ten important recommendations were derived from Pillemer’s research that senior persons should share with the upcoming generation. Here is a quick summary of what they know, along with some helpful exercises that are available on the Remente app:
Seek Meaning Rather Than Money: Choose a career path that provides you with more fulfillment than merely financial gain.
Handle your health as if you were going to live to be 100 years old. Make an investment in your well-being. These days, living a healthy lifestyle prepares you for an active retirement.
Seize New Opportunities: Say yes without hesitation; you’ll regret declining more offers than not.
Choose Your Life Partner Wisely: The person you select will influence your destiny, so carefully consider your options.
Highlight events Over Things: Try your hardest to travel, as the memories of these kinds of experiences are considerably more enduring than tangible possessions.
Communicate Yourself: Share your thoughts and feelings with others as soon as you are able. Speaking now, before it’s too late, is important.
Live Fully in the Now: Time is flying by, so live your life with a purpose and a sense of urgency.
Choose to Be Happy: Recognize that choosing to be happy is something you do every day and is not reliant on perfect conditions.
Give Up Worrying: Pay attention to what matters most and keep in mind that worrying wastes time.
Discover Happiness in the Little Things: Life’s subtleties lie in its everyday moments. Make an effort to convey your gratitude to them.
Let’s apply these lessons and turn this day into something truly remarkable!
