You don’t have to stop traveling when you retire. Here’s how my travel companion and I saw Greece on a shoestring without sacrificing any of its natural beauty, cuisine, or culture.

Discovering Low-Cost Travel Offers
It can be intimidating to book package deals, but perseverance is worthwhile. Thanks to travel offers from Travelzoo, we were able to book a 7-day trip to Greece for $900 per person, which included hotels and airfare. To take advantage of comparable deals, sign up for newsletters from websites like Travelzoo and Gate 1 Travel.

Time Is Everything
Steer clear of Greece in the summer months when crowds and costs increase if you want to save money. We went in October, when it was much less busy and the weather was pleasant (70–80°F). April, May, or October are the best months to visit Greece, according to experts, because of the combination of nice weather and cheaper costs.

Discover Athens on a Low Income
There is a lot of history in Athens, and most of it is affordable to explore. Remarkably cheap are several popular sights, including as the Acropolis and historic ruins. For 20 euros a day, think about taking the hop-on-hop-off red bus or ordering a taxi through the Uber app.

Healthy Eating in Less Time
Greek food is not only tasty but also reasonably priced. Numerous dinners come in at about 10 euros, and there are plenty of inexpensive street sellers selling falafel, souvlaki, and gyros. For even more eating savings, make the most of your hotel’s complimentary breakfast and choose an early lunch.

How to Navigate Santorini
We chose to rent a tiny rental car in order to maneuver the island’s winding streets, even though hiring mopeds or ATVs is an inexpensive choice. It’s free and quite beautiful to see Oia and the famed cliffs of Santorini before dawn, although we advise avoiding peak hours to prevent crowds.

Savor the Beaches
Greece offers beautiful beaches that you may enjoy without breaking the bank. We spent our days at the nearby black sand beach and slept at a more reasonably priced hotel in Perissa. We had chilled beers from a local supermarket in addition to the food and drinks that could be purchased.

Make the Most of Your Souvenir Buying
If you’re shopping for gifts, consider Athens over the smaller islands where costs are usually higher. Greece is a fantastic destination for vacationers on a tight budget because of its affordability when compared to other European nations.
