“For a lot of people, being 70 represents the silent revolution in lifespan and is the new 50.

Middle age now lasts at least nine years longer than current projections, and old age often begins at 74.

Our parents are living longer than ever before because of the wonders of medical research.

India’s total population is expected to grow by 40% between 2006 and 2050, but the number of people 60 and older is expected to rise by 270%.

By 2050, the population of over 60 is expected to increase from the present 110 million to 240 million.

The senior definition as it stands today

The age of sixty, which is about the retirement age, is considered to mark the start of old age in the majority of developing nations. Although the UN agreed to refer to those aged 60 and over as senior citizens, there is currently no defined numerical requirement.

The updated definition for older citizens

But according to a recent study, seniors 65 and older today are healthier, less reliant on others, and more equipped to age than their predecessors.

Three life-stage groupings can be identified among the senior population:

the youthful (about 65–74 years old), middle-aged (75–84 years old), and elderly (above 85 years old)

In conclusion

In the current situation, it is inappropriate to stereotype and categorise everyone over 60 as elderly.

Since everyone ages differently and experiences diverse consequences, defining old age can also be challenging.

Early old age is a good time since it allows you to pursue interests, retire from employment, and have children who are grown up. Individuals can effectively slow down the ageing process by pursuing a second career or even simple hobbies like gardening, photography, learning a new language, etc. They can focus on learning something new.
